Film | Glorious 39

This little war makes everything uncertain...

I happen to have watched Glorious 39 over the weekend and I am marvelled by how phenomenal it was. I tend to reserve my initial reviews of movies and the like once I have had time to 'collect my bearings', however some scenes of this period suspense thriller become more and more poignant upon reflection.
Glorious 39 (2009) was written and directed by Stephen Poliakoff who should be affirmed for his masterpiece of cinematography. Set in 1939, this is a mystery film surrounding the Keyes family entangled in a WWII wartime conspiracy; that proves lethal.
Casting a superb cohort of actors/actresses, eclipsing the feature film is undoubtedly Romola Garai who captivates us with her screen appearances as the heroine, Anne Keyes. Bill Nighy as the dapper Alexander Keyes cannot be ignored, whom creates an ominous and unsettling tone to the film.
Contrary to popular opinion (see Rotten Tomatoes) I found it draw comparisons to Atonement and other period cinema greats. I have included some film stills in attempt to synopsise the films spectacular viewings.
P.S how extraordinary is the costuming, especially that green velvet evening gown worn by Celia (Juno Temple) and that red gown!

Source: TOP // BOTTOM

Greetings darlings!
I'm just popping in the share these gorgeous coincidences that made my April a little bit special!
1. This darling print can't help but inspire heart palpitations. The artist whom is talented enough to cause a state of reverie simply over coloured ink and the magic of art is known as Caitlin Shearer. An Australian artist who will forever have my heart, if you so well please, I suggest you admire Caitlin Shearer's blog which contains so many marvellous posts which I happen to live vicariously through. This is Caitlin's post on the lady, which I can't help to see as a role model for my current Librarian career goals.
2. I just had to include this still from Buffy of my all time favourite ass kicking librarians, Giles. This is taken from a Halloween episode in season four, it has me in a fit of giggles every time I watch it. "Happy Halo- Hello Buffy... It's a sombrero"

1. The album cover for Daughter - If You Leave. This folk album is full of musical delights that have me swooning over the acoustic instrumentals married with aching percussion & phantasmal, almost ghostly vocals. My iTunes has special commendation for Amsterdam, much love for Still but the gem of this album has to be Youth that has donned the crown of my Autumn anthem. This song is magic. With every pluck of a guitar string and every lyric sung I imagine a flower in my chest unfurling. What these talented creatives of Daughter have done is articulate the rawness and complexity of relationship and conjured in a magical display of sound.
2. My polyvore set designed from the external creative stimuli of the 'If You Leave' tracks. When I listen to these songs I imagine a beautiful woman trapeizing through nature scenery, in a delicate dress oblivious to everything enthralled in a her own world. Perhaps, she is subconsciously following forest moths or the movements the wind makes through grass or low-lying branches.

"Sir?" she repeats. "How soon do you want it to get there?" - Jay Asher Thirteen Reasons Why

Greetings and salutations lovely readers,
This post is typed with the nervous excitement that I'm sure like many authors of first sentences of prose struggle to write. So, in order to assure confidence in this first post, I have included the first sentence of the fiction novel I am currently reading. Indeed my many thanks is given to Jay Asher whose prose I am reading with gusto and zealously indulging. Thank you.
Three facts.
One: Paige is the name I respond to when heard called.
Two: I am a librarian student with a passion for literature.
Three: To my dismay, after spending months suffering the burden of a 'quarter life & existential crisis' love child, I now find myself enlightened as to the trajectory of my future* if all goes fine and dandy this shall be a singular yellow brick, on my golden pavement to Oz. Please bare with me with the overall layout of the blog as I am sure this will evolve into a brilliant blog with the nurturing hours of procrastination.
*Okay, marco-manage planning
